Here goes – part 2 of our exciting Christmas adventure Madrid bound.
On the second day we rose a little late! The queen sized bed in our ‘Suite’ was far too comfortable to warrant not spending at least five hours snoozing after our long night of Spanish dancing.
Once up, our first port of call was brunch! We headed to a kooky little Tapas bar going by the name of Lateral, a mere five steps from the hotel. It was packed! We were finally seated just as we were about to give up all hope, and thank goodness we didn’t because the food was delicious and fuelled us up ready for our planned exploration of the city.
Granted we didn’t make it too far as we stumbled across the cutest Christmas Market and spent hours fawning over all the gorgeous jewellery on offer along with roasted chestnuts – it was the festive season afterall, and copious amounts of bits and bobs that “wouldn’t fit in our hand luggage if we bought them”. Finally retreating with three pairs of beautiful ‘Serena Van Der Woodsen style’ earrings each, and feeling pretty good about the grin on the marketeers face once we’d handed over the cash, we made our way slowly back to the hotel – soaking up the spectacular architecture en route.
In true fashion we were stopped in our tracks by rows and rows of red wine bottles lined up in a deli window along with what looked to be the yummiest of snacks – it turns out the Spanish like little food… alot! And without resisting we squeezed in a tipple or two, following which, we were ready to be welcomed back to the hotel to doll ourselves up for supper. You’d think all we went to Madrid to do was eat delicacies and drink the lovely local wine – spot on!
So what happened that evening? I guess you’ll have to wait and find out in part 3!…
