Automat Dover Street

Having more recently taken to trotting around London eateries checking out all the tantalising cuisine, it’s high time I start sharing. Kicking off with Dover Street’s Automat Brasserie …a cool casual place to dine, in what is usually a more formal part of town!

Mayfair’s answer to an American Diner appears fairly small on arrival but is in fact deceptively large! A friend and I were seated right at the back – sadly not in the quirky booths emulating the traditional American decor. Being a Thursday evening the whole city was in full swing indulging in the count down the the weekend, so the atmosphere was lively, welcoming and the eclectic mix of people made for a refreshing dining experience in the heart of upmarket Mayfair.

We both opted for the Spiced Cajun Salmon and I’m going to be bold here and say it was the best I’ve had to date – yes, EVER – it was beautifully cooked, marinated and perfectly portioned …a definite recommendation.

And if you love a good cocktail then Automats offerings are sure to tease your taste buds. The Kir Royale was my choice for the evening and before I knew it I was throwing them back like water – perhaps not the best idea at £10 a glass. The bottles of Merlot donning Marilyn Monroe labels displayed neatly above the minimalist bar made for a quirky touch and added to the character of the diner.

Happily I can say the only faux pas of the evening was the service was a little slow, however at such a busy time of the week I think I can afford to let them off as it was completely rammed after all, without forgetting their friendliness and the simple fact; the food was delicious!

If you’re looking to have a lunch date with the girls or an easy romantic dinner for two with a fun, vibrant atmostphere then Automat is the ideal place.

…and worth every penny!
